Pathways

The Madison Family Medicine Residency Program offers longitudinal training options that allow residents to deepen their skills and explore specific interests or career goals. Pathways provide focused experiences while maintaining full integration within the standard family medicine curriculum.

Residents develop advanced competencies by engaging in tailored clinical experiences, mentorship, and project work over the course of residency. Pathways strengthen readiness for future practice in areas of particular interest such as rural health, integrative medicine, or primary care leadership.

How Pathways Work

Residents may choose to pursue a pathway based on their professional interests. Each pathway includes:

  • A series of longitudinal clinical and educational experiences
  • Mentorship from faculty with expertise in the focus area
  • Opportunities for tailored scholarly or project work
  • Integration with core residency training, ensuring continuity in clinic, inpatient rotations, and longitudinal curriculum elements
