Leadership

David Rakel, MD, leads the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. He has served as chair since 2021.

Dr. Rakel is the Esther Millard Endowed Professor and Chair of the UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. He joined the department’s faculty in 2001 and founded the integrative health program shortly after. He served as the chair of the University of New Mexico Department of Family & Community Medicine from 2016-2021 before returning to lead our department.

Dr. Rakel is a leader in integrative health who is passionate about salutogenic science, the origins of health. Exploring the relationship between health, the human experience, and the environment motivates his desire to transform health care for all. More about Dr. Rakel »
