Education

As home to one of the nation’s original 15 family medicine residency programs, the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is a deeply rooted national leader in primary care education. Our mission is to train medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty to deliver comprehensive, high-quality care to diverse populations throughout Wisconsin and beyond. We offer a robust, supportive educational network designed to help learners at every stage achieve their professional goals.

Residency Programs

Our family medicine residency programs in Madison, Baraboo, and Monroe prepare physicians for practice in both academic and community settings. MD and DO learners receive hands-on education in environments that embrace varied backgrounds and foster professional growth.

Statewide Osteopathic Collaborative

The Statewide Osteopathic Collaborative is a unified, statewide initiative providing excellent osteopathic education and curriculum at both sponsoring and academic partner programs sites: Baraboo, La Crosse, Madison, Wausau, and Waukesha.

Mentorship

EnRICH

Open to all medical students, EnRICH provides family medicine mentorship, hands-on clinical training, and local community health experiences designed to diversify the physician workforce to better mirror the communities we serve.

PATHWAY PROGRAM

PRIME-FM

PRIME-FM is a four-year longitudinal pathway program where personalized experiences in research, leadership, and community health let students explore the many career paths and expansive scope of family medicine.

Online FORUM

Project ECHO®

Project ECHO brings together subject matter experts and community practitioners to drive sustainable change. We host several Project ECHO® programs to connect communities around areas of interest.

Grant Funding

WRPRAP

The goal of the WRPRAP is to train more physicians to meet Wisconsin’s rural workforce needs by funding opportunities targeting and prioritizing educational activities for new physicians in rural Wisconsin communities.
