PRIME-FM Pathway Program

PRIME-FM is a four-year longitudinal pathway program for University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health students interested in pursuing a career in family medicine.

All students are welcome to apply in the fall for the program, including those in WARM and TRIUMPH.

This program focuses on the following five pillars in the context of Family Medicine:

  • P – Promoting Leadership & Advocacy
  • R – Research
  • I – Innovation
  • M – Mentorship
  • E – Engagement with Communities

About PRIME-FM

The mission of PRIME-FM is to provide core educational events, dedicated mentoring and advising, and personalized opportunities for involvement and training in research, community health, and leadership while working alongside University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) faculty, fellows, and residents.

Students enrolled in PRIME-FM will be part of a community with other students who share similar career goals and interests. They will learn about and experience aspects of the many career paths and wide scope of practice available in family medicine while reaping the benefits of having a tailored mentorship experience.

PRIME-FM Mentorship

One of the core pillars of the pathway program is mentorship. Each student enrolled in PRIME-FM will be matched with a DFMCH faculty member who will guide and support the student throughout all four years of medical school. The mentor and student will drive this relationship based on the student’s personal goals and needs. Mentors will provide their perspectives on the different pathways in family medicine, medical school, creating work-life balance, and what sparks joy in their own lives.
