Rural Health Substance Use Clinical Support (RHeSUS)

The Rural Health and Substance Use Clinical Support (RHeSUS) Program provides essential training and educational programming that meets the requirements set by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This program equips health care professionals with the skills needed to confidently treat substance misuse and addiction in rural Wisconsin.

Program Aim

RHeSUS seeks to reduce substance misuse and addiction in rural communities through a range of evidence-based services. We offer both in-person and virtual consultative and educational opportunities for health care providers and patients.

Program Goals

  1. Increase Access to Care: Enhance the number of health care providers prescribing evidence-based pharmacotherapies for people facing substance use disorders.
  2. Improve Treatment Options: Expand access to evidence-based medical care and peer recovery support for those struggling with addiction.
  3. Reduce Adverse Outcomes: Address and mitigate the negative effects of alcohol, opioids, and substance use disorders.

This initiative is a collaboration among the Wisconsin Hospital Association, the Program for Research, Outreach, Therapeutics, and Education in the Addictions, and Wisconsin Voices for Recovery.

Who Should Participate?

The program is designed for: MDs/DOs, advanced practice practitioners, social workers, behavioral health providers, peer recovery service providers, and any member of the care team involved in treating substance use disorders.
