Seeking Participants with Addiction Disorders for Our Psilocybin Research

Program for Research, Outreach, Therapeutics, and Education in the Addictions (PROTEA)

PROTEA is a transdisciplinary group committed to improving prevention and treatment for substance use, addiction, and related conditions to promote health and well-being in patients and communities. This is achieved through:

  • Innovative and collaborative research
  • Educating health professionals and the community
  • Enhanced care and harm reduction services for people who use substances
  • Community engagement and service

PROTEA aims to innovate substance use prevention and treatment services to:

  • Ensure prompt access to competent and compassionate preventive care and treatment for people who use
  • Maximize health and well-being for people who use and minimize substance-related harms for them and their communities
  • Eliminate unjust and stigmatizing practices and policies

Research Program

Our research advances the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders through collaborative studies, including clinical trials and translational, health services, and implementation science.

Outreach Program

Our outreach provides education, training, and community advocacy in addiction medicine to expand access to evidence-informed prevention and treatment for substance misuse across health care and community settings.

Education Program

Our education trains health professionals to prevent, assess, and treat substance use disorders using evidence-informed, compassionate care and expands the addiction medicine workforce through fellowships, clinical rotations, and ongoing education.

Psilocybin for Opioid Use Disorder

About the study: The goal of this clinical trial is to determine the safety of psilocybin in adult patients with opioid use disorder who are also taking buprenorphine-naloxone.

Participants may receive up to $595.

Eligibility requirements: You use opioids illicitly to achieve intoxication or avoid withdrawal, are between the ages of 21-65, and live in the Madison area.

Methylone for PTSD

About the studyThis clinical trial explores a new oral medication for people experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Eligibility requirements: You have experienced a traumatic event, are suffering from symptoms of PTSD, and are at least 18 years old.
