Bio
Spenser Marting, MD, is an addiction medicine fellow. Marting grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin, and chose family medicine because of its emphasis on caring for people within the context of their families and communities.
While in medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin, he served as board chair of a student-run free clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping expand access to care through a new telehealth program. During residency at the University of Wisconsin, he served as chief resident while developing interests in addiction medicine, medical education, and comprehensive family medicine.
Following fellowship, he will join the faculty at the Wausau Family Medicine Residency Program, where he looks forward to caring for patients, teaching residents, and expanding access to addiction treatment in northern Wisconsin.
Clinical Interests
Marting’s clinical interests include integrating addiction medicine into primary care and improving access to evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders. He is particularly interested in addiction care in rural and resource-limited settings, hospital-based addiction medicine, and comprehensive family medicine across the lifespan. He strives to understand each patient’s unique story and partner with them to support the health goals that matter most to them.
Teaching Interests
Marting is passionate about preparing future family physicians to confidently care for patients with substance use disorders. His teaching interests include integrating addiction medicine into family medicine residency education and helping learners develop thoughtful, compassionate, and evidence-based approaches to patient care.
