Bio
Emmy Hakes, MD, joined DFMCH in 2026. Hakes completed her emergency medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin, where she served as chief resident. She followed her residency with an administrative fellowship and later practiced emergency medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Through her work in emergency medicine, she witnessed both the significant harms of substance use disorders and the transformative impact of compassionate and evidence-based treatment, inspiring her to pursue fellowship training to better support patients across the continuum of care.
Hakes continues to practice emergency medicine at the University Hospital and East Madison Hospital emergency departments and was honored to receive the University of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Award for Excellence in Clinical Care in 2026.
Clinical Interests
Hakes’s clinical interests include addiction medicine, quality improvement and patient safety, and urologic emergencies.
