Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)

The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is proud to support the award-winning Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG), a student-run organization advised by Dr. Melissa Ricker-Bouche.

With support from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), FMIG’s mission is to excite, promote, and support student interest in family medicine through active learning, mentorship, and exposure to family medicine’s broad scope of practice.

FMIG is open to all medical students across all phases. The FMIG leaders, who help plan events, are first- and second-year pre-clinical medical students. FMIG opportunities include:

Attend events with family medicine physicians to learn about their clinical roles and experiences
Build mentor–mentee relationships with family medicine faculty
Explore obstetric care from a family medicine perspective through the Basic Life Support and Obstetrics course
Practice a wide range of family medicine hands-on procedures at the Procedures Fair
Connect with a supportive community of students who share similar clinical interests
