Bio

Laura Andrea Prieto, PhD (she/her/ella) earned her PhD in kinesiology from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a concentration on motor control and behavior and adapted physical activity.

Prieto is from Bogotá, Colombia, and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her research explores the physical activity experiences of Latine adults with Parkinson disease and their care partners with the goal of creating a meaningful and impactful community-based physical activity intervention for this population.

Prieto is committed to improving equitable access to quality physical activity opportunities for the Latine community. She has taught several dance and movement classes for older adults including the Latine community in Madison, as well as for people with Parkinson disease. Outside of research, Prieto enjoys dancing, being outdoors, and cookouts with family.

Research Interests

Prieto’s research interests include adapted physical activity and dance for Latine older adults.
