Congratulations to Bruce Barrett, MD, PhD (Professor), Cindy A. Burzinski, MS, CSAC, LPC (Researcher I), and Mary F. Henningfield, PhD (Scientist II) on being awarded a 2024 North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) Clinical Pearl! “Psychological Treatments Improve Outcomes in Opioid-Treated Chronic Low Back Pain: A Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial” was chosen as one of the top research studies that will impact clinical practice at NAPCRG’s annual meeting.
The study explored whether mindfulness-based therapy is more effective than cognitive behavioral therapy in improving clinically relevant outcomes among adults with opioid-treated chronic low back pain. Former DFMCH colleagues Aleksandra Zgierska, MD, PhD, DFASAM and Wen-Jan Tuan, MPH, MS, DHA co-authored the study, along with Chan Shen, PhD, Penney Cowan, Robert Lennon, MD, JD, and Christin Veasley, MS.
NAPCRG is an “interdisciplinary volunteer association committed to nurturing primary care researchers working in partnership with individuals, families, and communities” and a recognized leader of primary care research. Their annual meeting is the largest primary care research meeting of its kind.
