Congratulations to Jerome Garrett, Jr. (Chief Administrative Officer, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health) on being invited to serve on the University of Wisconsin-Madison Black Experience ad-hoc study group. Chancellor Mnookin has charged the group to study the campus Black experience and recommend steps that the campus community could take to positively impact that experience.
The ad hoc study group will review relevant data regarding UW-Madison’s Black community, review historical information on UW-Madison’s challenges with incidents affecting the Black community experience on campus and the efforts to address these challenges, and advise on steps UW-Madison could take to positively impact the Black community experience on campus. The group will meet through the fall semester with a goal of reporting back to Chancellor Mnookin in January 2024. Dr. Angela Byars-Winston (UW Department of Medicine) and Rev. Alex Gee (Center for Black Excellence and Culture) co-chair the study group.
