Bio
Erin Gutowski, DO, MPH, FAAP (she/they) joined DFMCH in 2024 as fellow. Gutowski is a pediatrician who strives to provide inclusive, gender-affirming, sex-positive, and trauma-informed practices for all their patients and families. As part of her research, she has started to integrate community-based participatory research practices to further explore resiliency factors in rural LGBTQ+ communities.
Clinical Interests
Gutowski’s clinical interests include pediatric gender-affirming care, resiliency in LGBTQ+ communities, sex-positive inclusive health education for youth, trauma-informed care, socially complex pediatrics, motivational interviewing and behavior change readiness, and prevention of child maltreatment.
Teaching Interests
Gutowski loves teaching through case studies and interactive models of learning in small groups. They have also given larger lectures on gender-affirming care, comprehensive and inclusive sexual health education, building safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth, trauma-informed and resiliency-based pediatrics, and recognition and response to child maltreatment in a primary care setting.
Research Interests
Gutowski’s research interests include resiliency in LGBTQ+ youth, community-based participatory research, gender-affirming care for primary care clinicians, barriers to care in rural at-risk youth, and media use in LGBTQ+ youth.
