Bio
Sarah D. Hohl, MPH, PhD (she/her/hers) is the DFMCH Office of Community Health Lead Research Scientist. She leads efforts to assess, co-design, and evaluate community-engaged projects and equitable partnerships across physicians, university groups, and communities. She also facilitates evaluation mentoring and recruitment efforts that support a diverse healthcare and research workforce.
Prior to entering the field of US-based health equity research, Dr. Hohl spent ten years managing programs to address the social determinants of health in Africa and Asia. She holds an MPH in Global Health from University of Washington and a BA in Spanish from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Research Interests
Dr. Hohl is a mixed-methods implementation scientist and health equity researcher with training in population health and health behavior, community-engaged research, health services evaluation, and implementation science in cancer control. Her primary interests include:
- Implementing and scaling up cancer screening in primary care settings
- Engaging communities to address chronic disease prevention and control
- Addressing social determinants of health and social needs in clinic and community settings, with a focus on nutrition security and Food is Medicine
- Diversifying the healthcare and health equity research workforce
- Qualitative and mixed methods research
