The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) welcomes 63 learners (56 residents and 7 fellows) entering our statewide sponsored and academic partner programs this academic year.
Baraboo 1-2 Rural Training Track (RTT) Family Medicine Residency Program
Two Residents joined the Baraboo RTT this year:
- Both grew up in small Wisconsin communities and share a passion for rural health.
- Anderson developed an interest in geriatrics after working as a CNA in a nursing home. She also has special interests in women’s health and obstetrical care within family medicine.
- Wolf pursued a PhD in immunology and started a rural health interest group in medical school. These experiences helped her understand the importance of translational research and access to a personal family physician.
Madison Residency Program
Many of the 16 new Madison residents are advocates for underserved communities and share interests in women’s and LGBTQIA+ health and rural medicine.

- Two served abroad as community health workers where they developed interests in global health.
- Five volunteered at free clinics to provide medical care or childcare for low income and uninsured individuals.
- Two worked with Indigenous people in the United States learning about cultural influences and health disparities.
- Others were involved in programs including the Special Olympics, Health Equity Activation Task Force, and Global Health Scholars.
- Two have experience with integrative health and are eager to continue working in that space.
Monroe Family Medicine Residency Program
All five value relationship building with patients and continuity of care.
- Three have strong interests in practicing rural family medicine.
- Urso practiced in Venezuela for 5 years before coming to the US.
- Camarillo is originally from Milwaukee and finds the wide range of patients she can help rewarding.

The new fellows are continuing their education in a variety of fields:
- Primary Care Research: Emily Claypool, PhD, MA, and Elizabeth Ver Hoeve, PhD.
- Academic Medicine: Ashyln Brown, MD.
- Integrative Health: Michaela Frey, MD.
- LGBTQ+ Health: Erin Gutowski, DO, MPH.
- Addiction Medicine: Raj Grewal, MD.
- Primary Care Sports Medicine: Joseph Park, MD.
