Christopher R. Nicholas, PhD

Congratulations to Christopher R. Nicholas, PhD (Associate Professor, CHS) on being published as first author in Translational Psychiatry. The article, “Co-administration of midazolam and psilocybin: differential effects on subjective quality versus memory of the psychedelic experience,” provides proof-of-concept for a novel experimental approach to evaluating the potential role of memory for the psychedelic experience of psilocybin on behavioral outcomes. As principal investigator, Nicholas worked with an interdisciplinary team of University of Wisconsin faculty across the Departments of Psychiatry and Anesthesiology, the School of Pharmacy, and the College of Letters and Science.

Nicholas’s research focuses on the clinical efficacy and therapeutic mechanisms of psychedelic and psychoactive compounds for addiction, trauma, and depression. He provides specialty clinical services in the overlapping areas of chronic pain, addiction, and trauma and is a behavioral health supervisor for the University of Wisconsin Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program.

Translational Psychiatry is an open access peer-reviewed journal that “bridges the gap between research in neuroscience and conceptually novel treatments.” It is the highest-ranked open access journal in psychiatry.
