Congratulations to Brian Arndt, MD (Professor, CHS) on being published in Annals of Family Medicine. His article, “More Tethered to the EHR: EHR Workload Trends Among Academic Primary Care Physicians, 2019–2023,” was published in the January/February 2024 issue.
Arndt’s study evaluated recent trends in primary care physicians’ electronic health record (EHR) workload. The study found that primary care physicians time in the EHR continues to grow and is substantially higher than pre-pandemic levels. Electronic health record tasks and responding to patients’ inbox messages take up significant time that includes after-hours work, putting primary care physicians at risk of burnout.
Annals of Family Medicine, an open access peer-reviewed journal, serves the needs of scientists, practitioners, policy makers, and the patients and communities they serve. It is the top-ranked North American primary care research journal and has been in publication since 2003.
