First-Year Rotations (16 blocks)
Our first-year schedule consists of 16 blocks, in which Baraboo residents work alongside Madison residents for all inpatient experiences. Block lengths are three to four weeks in duration.
- Adult Medicine – St. Mary’s Family Medicine Service – 2 blocks
- Adult Medicine – UW Hospital Family Medicine Service – 1 block
- Adult Medicine – Medical Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital – 2 blocks
- Pediatrics Service – St. Mary’s Hospital and American Family Children’s Hospital (1 block each) – 2 blocks
- Pediatrics Nights & Newborn – St. Mary’s Hospital – 2 blocks
- Obstetrics –St. Mary’s Hospital – 2 blocks
- Rural Surgery –St. Clare Hospital Baraboo – 2 blocks
- Emergency Medicine – Community ER – St. Clare Hospital Baraboo – 1 block
- Emergency Medicine – St. Mary’s Hospital ER – 1 block
- Vacation – 3 weeks
Second year Rotations
Required Mini-Block Rotations (Baraboo or other participating sites)
Each block is 3-4 weeks but may be taken in 1-week increments to fulfill requirement. *Schedule approval based on individual preceptor requirements. See curriculum for more information.
- Pediatrics – Clinical and Urgent Care/ER settings – 1 block
- Orthopedics/Musculoskeletal – 1 block
- Sports Medicine – 3 weeks
- Management of Health Systems – 1 week
- Hospitalist – St. Clare Hospital – 4 weeks
- Community Medicine – Baraboo Community – 3 weeks
- Electives – 2 blocks
- Vacation – 4 weeks
Third Year Rotations
- Gynecology – 1 block
- Senior Peds – combination of ER/Urgent Care or Specialized Peds – 1 block
- Management of Health Systems – 1 week
- Hospitalist – St. Clare Hospital – 4 weeks
- Electives – 3 blocks
- Vacation – 4 weeks
Additional required curriculum that must be completed by the end of PGY3
- Dermatology – 24 hours
- Ophthalmology – 24 hours
- Urology – 24 hours
- ENT – 24 hours
- Management of Health Systems/Practice Management – 100 hours
