Congratulations to the Office of Community Health rural health team on earning second place at the Wisconsin Collaborative for Rural Graduate Medical Education (WCRGME) poster fair! The poster, titled “Advancing Health Equity in Rural Wisconsin: Perspectives of Communities, Family Medicine Physicians and University Groups,” was presented at the WCRGME conference in Wausau, WI on September 18, 2024. The poster was authored by Sarah Hohl, MPH, PhD, Hazel Behling, Savanna Kiefer, MPH, and Shelly Shaw, MPH.
The poster summarizes results and next steps from the Office of Community Health’s Needs Assessment, where representatives from the community, University of Wisconsin, and DFMCH physicians working in rural southwestern Wisconsin were interviewed to identify shared priority health issues, influencing factors, and resources and roles to address them. The office’s goal is to utilize these results and envision a community-engaged approach that leverages multiple partners’ resources, addresses identified needs, and advances health equity.
The WCRGME was established in 2012 to address the shortage of rural primary care physicians through the expansion of rural graduate medical education.
