Bio
Shelly Shaw, MPH (she/her/hers) is the Director of the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health Office of Community Health. Shaw graduated from North Central College with a BA in biology and earned her MPH at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
Shaw has a broad background in public health serving in many capacities such as working as an infectious disease epidemiologist at the Minnesota Department of Health, advancing quality improvement efforts at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, studying the impacts of climate change on the health of Wisconsinsites, and implementing community-based systems changes in Madison-area communities aimed at keeping kids healthy and active. Shaw also provided temporary support to the Wisconsin Division of Public Health on the COVID-19 Community Resilience and Response Task Force working to center equity in Wisconsin’s pandemic response.
Underlying her public health experience is a passion for prevention, community engagement, and equity. Shaw has learned the importance of braiding together the wisdom of many voices and seeking out voices that are absent through these various opportunities.
