Hema Patel, MD, is a family medicine doctor at UW Health. Dr. Patel cares for patients of all ages and in all stages of life. She treats illnesses, injuries and chronic conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Dr. Patel provides newborn and well-child checks, routine exams and sports physicals. She also makes nursing home visits and helps families care for their loved ones at the end of life.
Taking great joy in patient care, Dr. Patel works to develop a good rapport with her patients. She wants them to comfortably express what’s happening in their lives and why they came to the clinic. She asks questions, listens closely and talks with patients about their treatment options.
Dr. Patel finds it rewarding to treat multiple generations of the same family — from grandparents and great-grandparents to parents and children.
In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Patel serves as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.
During her free time, Dr. Patel enjoys photography, hiking and crafts.
“When patients walk out the door, I hope they feel well cared for, as if they’re family.”
